Mr. & Mrs. Matthew Double a year later...

On March 21, 2009, two wonderful
people pledged their lives to each
other! We had a special celebration
for them at Tim's mother's house last
Saturday, March 13.
Here are a few pictures.

Unending Ode to One Year of Marriage

Here is the song. Now if
I can just get that video to
upload on here, you would here
the song being sung.

This Julia wearing her birthday dress from Grampy and Grammy (Tim and Me)on Sunday in October. Her birthday is in September. I nevber thought a black and white dress could be so pretty! And she is beautiful anyway.

In the month of October, we went to Newport News, Va. to visit with Jenn and Rick. Rick took us to a nice lake and park where we walked through woods by the water. We took lots of pictures. This was one of the resting spots. Richard, Jennifer, Julia and Christopher are seated in the picture. Valerie is standing to the side.

A Long Time Has Passed Since ...

Hi! I have had a busy life and haven't been on here much! This is the first time this new year! However, a lot has taken place, and I will try to update you all. I also hope to post some new pictures soon.
There have been events come up in my family's life that we never dreamed we would face, but we have found God's grace all sufficient for our needs. He has answered many prayers for us and we are so grateful for His help. I don't know what people do without God. Someone has said that Christians use God as a crutch. My father-in-law always told the men in the jail where he preached that he needed God every day he lives and if people want to think that he is leaning on a crutch by depending on God, that was ok.
We have traveled a rocky road, but we have had some happy times in the past year of 2009. God gave me a special song that just fitted our circumstance. It was sent just before it was needed and realized later. What a blessing!
Our son Matthew married Crystal Mace in March. Her father was not able to attend the wedding, but she and Matt were able to get wedding pictures later with him and her mother. Then God took him home after many years of faithful service as a father, husband, friend, minister and all-around handyman.
I attended a graduation in Pennsylvania. My nephew, Josh Quesenberry and some family friends graduated. Then later in the year, in November, my mother had her 75th birthday, and I wanted to have a celebration for her. The special trip was made and we did manage to keep the surprise pretty well. Not many of our family could attend, but some of the congregation from the church where John and Mom pastor came and some of the Walter family. We had a good time together and Valerie and I sang a song in honor of Mom about how she taught Valerie to read. Also, my sister Rhonda made a tri-fold arrangement and sent it to me to place on a tri-fold to display times in Mom's life. She also made a song that we all sang to Mom. It was fun!
At Christmas time, Valerie and I went to Tennessee to be with all my family. We made the trip in our son Anthony's car, a little Dodge Neon. It was a nice trip and God kept us safe.
My nephew, Joshua Quesenberry is in the Allegheny Wesleyan Bible College now. He is in one of the singing groups and is studying to be a minister. He plays the guitar. We are proud of him.
So far, I have been babysitting for my daughter Belinda at least once a week. She is still studying for pharmacy. Sarah is growing and will be 4 in June.
Jennifer is going to have her third child at the end of March or perhaps the beginning of April. Due date is March 29th. The new arrival is supposed to be a girl. I think it would be funny if the new little one was a boy! So far in Rick's family, all teh grandbabies but one are girls. Jennifer and Rick have the only grandson so far. Poor Christopher is outnumbered among his cousins.
Have a happy new year walking with the Saviour, Jesus Christ our Lord.

First Anniversary of Engagement

Some time ago, Linda Hudson asked for some other pictures of my mother's wedding. I am posting some now. We are nearing the anniversary of when Rev. John Walter asked her to marry him. It was in February. They are so happy together! April 19th, they will celebrate their first anniversary. I say, How Sweet! God is so good!

The first picture is of John's family, except for Treva, a daughter who was very ill when the wedding took place. Treva is a professional piano player, and can sing, and some other family members are talented in music and singing. The oldest son with the dark hair was the wedding photographer. The other son is a pastor at the Portage Wesleyan Holiness Church in Portage, Pa. There are two pastors' wives among the daughters and a daughter who is married to a layman in the church.

The second picture is of my brothers and sisters and me with Mom and John. My brother John is a carpenter and can play the guitar. My brother Chris is a jet mechanic and carpenter. My brother Stephen could teach school if he wanted to. He has been a football coach for several years and has worked as a security guard in a high school. My brother Terry is a mechanic.

My sisters and I are happy housewives and mothers. Ruth is a registered nurse and keeps busy with sewing for herself and members of her growing family. Anita is a cattle farmer's wife and they also take in foster children occasionally. Amy is a school teacher and a music teacher and is busy with her husband in church work. Rhonda is homeschooling her children and is busy in church work. Debbie is helping to educate Navajo children in ACE and serves with her husband in missionary work with Phoebuses. And you can read my profile to find out about me.

A Special Engagement

Matthew Double and Crystal Mace will be married on March 21, 2009! We are happy to welcome Crystal into our family! She is a wonderful person and will make our Matthew a very good wife! We are happy that God brought them together.

My Personal Profile

I am a Christian and mother of five,(three girls and two boys). I am 52 years old, and I enjoy life to the fullest, I think. I have three grandchildren, two son-in-laws and soon will have my first daughter-in-law!
I am happily married to a layman in the church. He is Jack of all trades and master of some,(my opinion). A mechanic, a computer whiz, a Sunday School teacher for teenagers, a treasurer, a professional bus driver, a roofer, and if there is anything else, I could put it down later.
Here are my favorite things to do. I love to try my hand at writing plays, poems and songs. I play the piano at church and can accompany myself on solos with the accordion, sometimes dueting with my husband. I enjoy serving God. I enjoy sewing and crochetting and crafts.
I also enjoy the privilege of babysitting my grandkids and being with all my family! I always have an attitude of gratitude to God for His blessings in giving me such a wonderful privilege!
At the present time, I am still editor of our school's yearbook and it was my privilege again to coordinate the Christmas program for the school. That should be enough about anyone!!

Grandkids

Here are some pictures of our grandkids. We are so proud of them!
Sarah is involved in a lot of traveling, as Belinda is going to Pharmacy School.
Right now, Julia and Christopher, 4 and 2, are with Grandma Alexander and will probably be with us this Friday until Jen and Rick return from a trip to Japan. It was a special Christmas present to Jen, since she had never been out of the country and Rick wanted her to meet the Millers, a missionary family he stayed with while stationed in Japan a few months ago. Anyway, here are some pictures of them. Belinda and Joseph haven't had a chance yet to get a new family picture made. I will post that when we get one. Enjoy! And Happy New Year to all of you!

WHBC Annual Christmas Program 2008

Well! It has been a long time since I typed anything new on my blog! I have been busy getting a school Christmas program ready. Of course, there were other things that kept me busy, too. Remember, I told you all that I am a grandma and our oldest daughter is attending Charleston University Pharmacy School. We have been babysitting our granddaughter, Sarah Ashby.
There is a lot to tell since I last typed! Our son Matthew is engaged to be married March 21st and we are excited to have our first daughter-in-law, Crystal Mace.
Crystal's dad has been very ill since his stroke that almost took him to Heaven. The family is hoping he can come to the wedding in a wheelchair if nothing else. We are praying he will be able to. It seems he has indicated so.
Matthew just turned 26 and on his birthday, Dec. 18, he had the privilege of starting in his new job at Tasty Blend Foods. He is very happy to be out of McDonald's, even though they were very good and were very understanding when he had his cancer treatments several years ago in 2003. Anyone who has worked in fast food restaurants knows what is means to be tired. Sometimes you can get stuck with it all when others don't show up for work and you work early, early! You must rise from sleep at 3am every morning! He is very happy!
Well, right now I need to go and get ready to go to town. Our school is putting out a new Defender. That is our school paper. It is a big job, and they still need help finishing up. I also have things to put away from the Christmas program, so I must go now. Have a Merry and Christ-filled Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Until next time,
Karen Double

Joseph's Fall !

A couple weeks ago, our son-in-law, Joseph Ashby fell off a roof with a small left handed battery saw in his hand. He fell about 9 feet and broke his left wrist. The pain has been terrific. The first cast they put on was bent at his wrist and caused much of the pain. The one he had put on this last Friday was straight and doesn't go to his elbow. It helped considerably with the pain. However, he doesn't feel like driving very much right now. He had our son Anthony go along this weekend to help with the driving.
Of course, Belinda is still doing her traveling and we are still helping with Sarah.

Granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Ashby, 2yrs.

I am babysitting for our daughter, Belinda who has enrolled in Charleston University for pharmacy. She and Joseph are still pastoring in Floyd, Va. and she is commuting back and forth from Va. to WV every week. It is a four year course. We are happy for her since she has tried for a long time to get in.
Sarah will be with us two or three times a week and Joseph's mother and my husband's mother want to watch her some, too, so we are sharing the privilege.
Sarah loves cherry tomatoes and we grew some this year. She insisted upon having two at once.
Our daughter, Jennifer and her husband have blogs. http://jenn-jennalexander.blogspot.com/
Her title is Joyful Living. Rick's is http://www.alwaysing.blogspot.com/

My Mother's Recent Wedding (Former preacher's wife marries a pastor)

A Happy Housewife's Musings

My mother was married April 19th to Rev. John Walter from Pennsylvania. My dad passed away 5 years ago and Mother was lonely. She had been praying for awhile about possibly marrying again, because she felt she was not very useful anymore. She was accustomed to a busy life as a preacher's wife. My dad pastored and preached for years. Before Daddy passed away, he and Mother were busier than they had ever been in their lives in the ministry. He was teaching in the Wesleyan Holiness Bible College and going to fill in on the weekends at churches where there was no pastor or filling in for preachers on vacations, etc. They also sang together. Daddy was very musical and played the piano, organ, guitar, accordion, and violin. So Mother was accustomed to being busy, especially in the raising of 12 children (six girls and six boys). Two of the boys passed away years ago.
After six months of praying about it, Mother received a phone call from Rev. John Walter back in February. He was interested in meeting her, but could not go to where she was because he had a very sick daughter in the hospital and he didn't want to leave her. It was arranged that Mother would go to meet him in Pennsylania. They dated a week and were engaged before Mother came home. This was a real answer to their prayers.
I am happy for them both and now we have an extended family, which is quite nice.
